Business Resilience Constuction List
How will you deal with disruption caused by a major crisis, emergency or incident? Contingency planning before the event can ensure survival of your business. Some of the components to be considered for your own Business Continuity Plan might include the following:
- Identify key personnel and their responsibilities for crisis management.
- Keep a list of telephone contacts for all employees off site.
- Keep a list of contacts for the emergency services, utility companies and local authority.
- The actual recovery plan should list the service supplied, the person or persons responsible and their contact address and telephone/mobile numbers.
- Ensure computer back up information is kept off site.
- Prepare an internal emergency communications plan.
- Consider how communications can be achieved if divert arrangements are required.
- Prepare an inventory of machinery and equipment to facilitate replacement.
- If you are dependent upon particular machinery, identify availability and replacement time.
- Establish property and estate agent contacts.
- Agree procedures with the landlord to ensure restoration arrangements.
- Consider the availability of temporary alternative accommodation.
- Assess the feasibility of using temporary structures on site.
- What contractual obligations are in place in terms of deadlines/penalties with customers.
- Consider the availability of alternative suppliers.
- Consider transportation difficulties and possible use of sub contract transport.
- Train staff to familiarise them with their role in an emergency
This is not intended to be an exhaustive list as your Business Continuity Plan should be tailor made to your own business and its requirements.
